Our Story

Sneha Bhagwat

Sneha Bhagwat is a Bharatanatyam artiste based in Bengaluru, engaged in performance and teaching with a thoughtful approach to movement. She stepped into Bharatanatyam at the age of seven, guided first by Guru Smt. Bhavani Ramnath, and later nurtured under Guru Dr. Sanjay Shantaram at the Shivapriya School of Dance. While dance claimed her soul, life led her briefly into the world of law—where she trained as an advocate under her father, Sri M. S. Bhagwat, Senior Advocate at the High Court of Karnataka. The courtroom sharpened her thinking; the stage kept her breathing. Dance, however, always remained home.

Sneha is a Vidwath holder, a “B” grade Doordarshan artiste, and holds a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam from Shastra University, Thanjavur. Her artistic vocabulary deepened through the study of the Karanas of the Natya Shastra under Guru Smt. Nirupama Rajendra, and through rigorous training in Nattuvangam with Sri Kiran Subramanyam and Acharya Ramya Janakiram – tools that continue to shape her sensitivity as both a performer and a teacher.

Her performances have travelled across respected stages in India and abroad, from temple courtyards to proscenium stages, from Chennai to Delhi, and beyond borders to Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bahrain, Qatar, Australia, and the United States. Some of her note-worthy performances include Solo recitals for the monthly concert of Karthik Fine Arts at Narada Gana Sabha, Kanasu Dance Festival, Nirantharam, Ananya Nruthyollasa, ICCR every Friday cultural evening.

Sneha is also the co-founder of the dance duo Saamarasya, alongside Rupesh K. C. Their debut thematic work, Sakhya – Retelling Tales of Friendship (2023), explored intimacy, companionship, and shared journeys—resonating deeply with audiences and the dance fraternity alike. Collaborations with senior artistes such as Guru Kiran Subramanyam for Maanini, Dr. Gayatri Kannan for Sammilana, Dr.Anitha Ratnam for Padme, Dr.Veena Murthy Vijay for Jeevanadi and Dr.Usha RK for Pranasakhi has aided Sneha to explore the art form with its various facets.

Recognition has followed her journey in the form of honours including Kala Arati Ratna (Arizona), Natya Mayuri (Central Ohio), Nrithyavisharade (Sydney), and the Women Achiever Award by the Karnataka Women Lawyers’ Federation—each one a quiet affirmation of the path she continues to walk.

In 2018, yoga entered her life not as an add-on, but as an anchor. Trained at S-VYASA University and the Nirakula Academy of Hatha Yoga, this philosophy found a home in SthitA, the space she founded in 2019 – where dance, yoga, and body conditioning are guided by awareness, strengthened through practice, and supported by theory, allowing students to grow holistically.

At heart, Sneha believes in movement as memory, tradition as something living, and art as a way of carrying culture forward—gently, honestly, and with purpose.

Encouraging Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Journey of Sthitā

The depth of our Indian Arts is profound that even a lifetime would not suffice to learn it all. Sthitā aims at exploring the various facets of this rich culture, helping you soak & relish it, in all its glory.

Sthitā, a Sanskrit term, has three connotations to it: Constant, Balance, Belonging to. Sneha Bhagwat, the Founder & Creative Director of Sthitā, calls it so because DANCE has been her constant in life & that is what brings the perfect balance within her! And with time she has come to realise – that’s where she truly belongs.

Sthitā, that came into being in June 2019, has made an effort to ignite several hearts with the love & passion for this art form. Offering classes in the disciples of Yoga & Bharatanatyam at present, both online & offline, the space believes in providing its students a holistic learning to explore aspects of rhythm, music, body physiology along with the art form. Apart from classes in Bangalore, Sthitā is proud to have students from the USA, United Kingdom, Australia and Europe.

The year 2025 has been special for Sthitā in numerous ways. The founder Sneha who always dreamt of giving back to the art world, has initiated a quarterly in-house performance series “ANVESHANA” through Sthitā. Anveshana has a two fold aim, one being providing a paid platform for young professional dancers and the other being students getting to witness artists of high calibre at the door step of their class. This year Anveshana saw young professionals Shobit Ramesh, Sohini Karanth, Nilava Sen from Kolkatta and Janki D V from Udupi take the stage by storm.

Besides Anveshana, Sthitā pompously hosts a mid-year student showcase “SAMBHRAMA” celebrating India and the day of our independence, instilling a sense of pride and patriotism among its students. “AVIRATA” began as an event to celebrate the anniversary of Sthitā, providing the students a platform to bring together their learning every December. From 2024 Avirata reshaped into a platform hosting dance ensembles in addition to the student showcase, with the genuine intention of promoting our tradition, true talent and inspiring its students. AVIRATA has witnessed brilliant performances by Vid.Sneha Devanandan and Team, the students of Smt.Pravitha Ashok of Nrithya Vasantha Natyalaya, Kundapur enthralling us.

Last but not the least, Sthitā is proud, That her first batch of students have secured distinction in the Junior exam 2025, conducted by the Gangubai Hangal University and the  Gandharva exam conducted by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. Apart from students winning competitions and accolades at their Schools, 2025 has seen the students of Sthita shine on platforms like Mukula Nrithyotsava organised by Guru Sadhanashree, the Ganeshotsava at Shakthi Mahaganapthy temple, the monthly concert at the Jalahalli ayyappa Temple. Sneha who considers Teaching to be a commitment of the highest order, looks forward to moulding each member of the Sthitā family to the best of their ability.
